Laptop Octet (2025)
Laptop Octet - a confused musical situation somewhere between a piece and an installation - questions computer music by representing it trivially. An “Octet” of a musical formation, that of eight mechanical and portable instrumentalists, confused with their scores. "Octet" of an eight-bit base, of a binary language in which music lies between two units.
Eight computers, placed on music stands arranged in arcs of a circle, play videos in loops. Each video features a background: a single-note score, unique to each computer. Mouse cursors play the scores by selecting notes, sine waves composed of micro-fluctuations (glissandi, tremolo, play on dynamics) and participate in making complex sounds or beats in the air - according to Fourier's theory. In this sense, the work proposes the contemplation of a shifting spatial chord, endlessly composing and decomposing. And it does so by relying on the economy of the device and the acoustic phenomenon.
